Dr. Poti discussed the findings in a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sph.unc.edu\/sph-news\/purchases-of-highly-processed-foods-are-lower-among-african-american-and-hispanic-households-than-among-white-households-study-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a><\/strong> from the UNC <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sph.unc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gillings School of Global Public Health<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOur findings indicate that purchases of highly processed foods were lower among African-American and Hispanic households than among white households, which is the opposite of what is typically assumed about racial and ethnic nutritional disparities,\u201d Poti explained. \u201cWe also found that highly processed foods and convenience foods could not explain the racial and ethnic disparities in the nutrient content of overall grocery store food purchases, which also is contrary to what most people assume about processed foods.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The full study was<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0022316623006995\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> published online<\/a> <\/strong>July 27 by the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jn.nutrition.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journal of Nutrition<\/a>.<\/strong> Read the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0022316623006995\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full journal article\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A newly published study by Dr. Jen Poti found that African-American and Hispanic households purchased less of highly processed foods when compared to White households.
